The hormone estrogen is responsible for keeping pelvic tissue healthy, thick, and strong. But as hormone decline naturally decreases with age during menopause, the walls, tissue and muscles that support the bladder can become thin and weakened. Botulinum (Botox^®)
Bladder Injections

While urinary incontinence is more common as women and men get older, it is not a normal part of aging. It is a medical condition that can be treated with a variety of innovative new treatments, such as Botox^® injections into the bladder. Urge incontinence – also called overactive bladder – is characterized by the bladder suddenly emptying without warning, or a feeling of needing to urinate all the time. Since you never know when the urge will strike, you can live in constant worry about about sudden, embarrassing bladder leaks.

Injecting the bladder with Botox^® (or a similar botulinum formula) interferes with the overactive nerve signals to the bladder – help the muscles that control the bladder to relax. This gives you much more time to get to the bathroom when you start to feel the need to urinate. The injections are a quick procedure in our Dearborn office and are effective for both male and female urge urinary incontinence.

Most patients get symptom relief quickly — usually in a few days or less. The treatment results last up to about six months, at which point you can return for follow up injections.
