Dr. Mona Fakih at Aesthetic Medica in Dearborn, MI specializes in Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty surgery.
As a woman gets older, every part of her body undergoes changes – including her vagina and labia. Pregnancy & childbirth, decreased hormone production during menopause, genetics, and aging cells all contribute to weakening and thinning of the tissue in the vagina and labia. As a result, many women experience looseness of the vagina walls. Medically this is called “vaginal atrophy. ” And, aging skin and tissue can also cause the labia to become saggy, distended and wrinkled.
Sadly, some women are too embarrassed to seek help for these issues, while others assume that their sexual decline and discomfort is just a “normal” part of aging. But labiaplasty and vaginoplasty surgery can renew a woman’s intimate areas.
Vaginoplasty (also known as posterior colporrhaphy) is a procedure designed to tighten the vagina. Vaginoplasty surgery brings the separated muscles together, and the extra mucosa skin from the back side of the vagina is removed. The external skin can also be removed for a more aesthetic appearance.
Labiaplasty’s aesthetic goal is to create a more natural looking and balanced vulva and vagina, with no labia minora tissue protruding beyond the outer labia. Labiaplasty is intended to reduce the size of enlarged labia minora; it does not alter or tighten the vaginal opening.
We also offer a noninvasive vaginal tightening alternative to vaginoplasty and labiaplasty surgery called the diVaTyte® laser. diVaTyte® contracts and tightens the vagina and labia using thermal energy. However, patients with significant laxity may not experience a benefit from the DIVA treatments and may be better candidates for surgical tightening with vaginoplasty.
